About

muck’mak’er n.
One who creates and perpetuates misconduct in public life.

Muckraking, a form of literary criticism that began in the late 1800s, is still alive and well today. The format may have changed over time, from newspapers and books to TV and the internet, but the idea remains the same – expose the corrupt politicians, businessmen, religious leaders, celebrities, or other public figures for the bastards that they are in the most brutally honest manner possible. Its purpose isn’t journalistic sadism, as fun as that sounds, but to inform the public of what is going on right under their noses and piss them off enough to make them do something about it. One of the main functions of this site is to do exactly that, although the term “muckraker” has such a negative connotation that we almost hesitate to use it in describing what we are. The word itself was coined by a politician (of course), and being a supporter of tit for tat, we decided that if we are the ones raking the muck, then there must be someone creating the muck to begin with; hence, our enemies have become the muckmakers.

Too often, a blog’s focus is on its webmaster(s) and not a subject the viewer came to read about. That’s why our title puts the villains in the spotlight. Broad generalizations, such as “life sucks” or “that’s life,” are simply not tolerated here. There are very precise reasons as to why our quality of life as a people, a society, a country, and an entire planet is not what it should be, and we are here to hold those responsible accountable. The United States government is always making lists – now the other side has one, too. In addition to our blog, we’re profiling all the muckmakers of the world, giving you detailed accounts describing why these people are scum. And we’re not calling them out to just to point fingers and play the blame game, but to tear down archaic, groundless, and simple-minded ways of thinking and replace these lies with truths on which we can establish change. Now, more than ever in the world’s history, freethinkers are coming out of hiding and speaking their minds, and in the spirit of the raw and honest style of the muckrakers, we’re not going to write in the conventional style you’ll see on other blogs. We hope to entertain as well as inform, injecting a healthy dose of cynicism, wit, sarcasm, and impropriety into our commentary in hopes of giving it to you straight while keeping you laughing, because if you can’t laugh at the world and its problems, you’re probably part of said problems.

That’s about as close to a mission statement as we’ll get. Occasionally, we’d like to deviate a little from this format and post about someone in a positive way, maybe highlight some of our influences or people you should listen to, and we’re kicking around some other feature ideas as well, but for the most part, this is what you can expect from us. As long as the world has problems, we’ll have content…so expect a hell of a lot of content.
