No idea where the separation of church and state is. Couldn’t remember what the 14th amendment was. Or the 16th.

Seriously? Now, it wouldn’t shock me if the average Joe Citizen couldn’t remember them all… but you’re fucking running for Senate, AND you’re party of the Tea Party that knows exactly 6 words: constitution, taxes, obamacare, socialist, czar, and commie. One would think you’d at least read the fucking thing.

Donald Duck Listens to Glenn Beck

Jonathan McIntosh, master of the video remix, has another hit on his hands – “Right Wing Radio Duck” is a Donald Duck cartoon that’s cut together from 1930s-1960s Disney cartoon clips and snippets from Glenn Beck’s radio rantings. In the cartoon, Donald loses his job and starts listening to Beck, who seems to have all the answers the poor angry white duck is searching for. Like any good Donald cartoon, however, he gets into more than he bargained for…

As the Village Voice pointed out last week, white America has lost its mind, and the scary thing is, it’s proud of it. Donald here learns his lesson, but will the rest of the unwashed masses catch on to his fiendish money-making scheme? Apparently they did in New Jersey, where Beck sold less than 10% of tickets to the kick-off of his “Restoring America” tour. I guess 700 people showing up is nothing to scoff at money-wise, especially at $50 a ticket (or $125 for “special VIP privileges,” whatever they may be), but you can only inflate your numbers for so long before it starts to catch up with you. (News pundits lie, but numbers certainly don’t.) Once his promoters realize that they’re not making back what they spend to keep his FAILboat afloat, he’ll be selling gold on late-night infomercials full-time.

Maddow Reveals Christine O’ Donnell’s Website Scrubbing

Ever since Tea Party nutjob Christine O’Donnell surprised everyone (including the GOP) by becoming the Republican’s Senate nominee in Delaware, she’s come under some pretty heavy scrutiny, and rightfully so: Don’t run for public office if you’re prepared to have your life turned upside down. It wasn’t long before the media rediscovered her anti-masturbation campaign on MTV’s “Sex in the 90s;” replayed her many appearances on Bill Maher’s “Politically Incorrect,” where she made some conservatively incorrect statements; and started examining her personal and campaign finances (which appear to be one in the same). When even Karl Rove, who would defend Hitler if he was a Republican, is calling you “nutty” and asking you to explain yourself for your witchcraft comments, you know you’re losing friends (and voters) fast, so I guess it comes as no surprise that the GOP has been working diligently behind the scenes to save her from herself. Take a look at what Rachel Maddow uncovered last night on her show…

Yes, politicians are so dumb that they actually think that deleting sections of their website means that they’re gone forever, much in the same way that O’Donnell actually believed that entire decades of her life would disappear if she just started a new campaign. She probably just assumed that she’d never make it this far, since she’s failed at it several years in a row now, but never underestimate the idiocy of the general public. This is the year of the Tea Party, after all, and you certainly don’t have to be a genius (you know, one of those “liberal elitists”) to gain the fleeting attention of those assholes…just hold up something shiny and call it “socialism.”

It seems that all the comparisons of O’Donnell to Sarah Palin have been even more prophetic than they first seemed as her campaign (and her life) comes tumbling down soundbite by soundbite. Palin was her own worst enemy, proud to be dumb and dumb as a rock, and O’Donnell is creating a boulder of incompetence that’s rolling downhill faster than her campaign managers can keep up with. Neither were targeted because they’re women – they were targeted because they had no business running for public office (or breathing all our good air for that matter).

I must confess that I enjoy watching political train wrecks in the same way that others enjoy watching lives fall apart on reality TV – you almost feel bad until you realize that not only are they stupid, but they participated willingly and greedily. There’s few things I love more than watching people get their just desserts, and it looks like O’Donnell’s final course is well on its way.

Of Catholicism and Capone

There can be little doubt that had any other organization other than the Catholic church that was trusted with the care of children, for instance an orphanage, a school, or a daycare center, had been found to not only been abusing the children, but to swear the victims to secrecy, and then to move the molester to another center… there simply would be no debate about allowing the organization to conduct its own investigation and to impose its own ‘punishments’ of repentance. Both the individuals and the organization would be up on criminal charges before you could say ‘knife’.

However, for the Catholic Church, law enforcement seems powerless. The church simply says child molestation is evil, and that through true repentance can come renewal, or some equally nebulous BS, and the church gets away with such criminal acts scot-free.

But even if institutionalized child molestation doesn’t take the church down, it has been a huge blow to its credibility. In that sense, it’s kind of like Al Capone being taken down for tax evasion. Especially given that the Pope has stated that he thinks that condoms actually increase the spread of HIV in sub-Saharan Africa.
