Democrats Voted For FISA Out Of Fear

There was an article posted in at the Chicago Tribune earlier this week by a man named John Russonello that does a very good job in summing up why the Democratic Congress has been an immense disappointment thus far. Essentially, Russonello explains that Democrats continue to allow things like FISA and weaker wiretapping regulations pass out of fear as being labeled “weak on terrorism”.

When you think about it, what other hand do the Republicans have left to play this fall? Certainly not the economy, the environment, or the war. The only thing John McCain, or any other Republican can run on, is the premise that they (a) are more religious than the other guy, and (b) are “harder” on terrorism.

Because of this, Democrats have literally been crippled by the fear of being labeled soft on terror. Because of this, they continue to vote for things that are typically against what (from my understanding) the majority of their part would stand against. Too many politicans live and die by the advice of their political advisers. Keep in mind these advisers are slow to take a hardline stance on an issue, because sitting in the middle and going whatever way popular opinion is pointing is the easiest way to keep their job. I can’t figure out who is worse, the advisers that feed the fear of the Republican spin machine, or the Democrats that listen to them.
