The always classy Westboro Baptist Church (the assholes behind the “God Hates Fags” campaign) recently launched their latest abomination creation – a music video parody of Lady Gaga’s hit single “Poker Face.” Seriously. You can’t make this stuff up, people. Take a look…
And I thought that Charlie Check’m video was painful to sit through. In case you wanted to know (and I’m not sure why you’d want to inquire further), that’s Megan Phelps-Roper, the granddaughter of WBC founder Pastor Fred Phelps, singing like she’s in the first round of American Idol in a video that looks like it was directed by Phil Thomas Katt. The rotten old fruit apparently doesn’t fall far from the tree. This video is the follow-up to the church’s December 22nd “press release,” which resembles an old Angelfire page more than it does any official document…

“Art” and “fashion” are the euphemisms, the guise under which proud whore Lady Gaga teaches rebellion against God (incidentally, her claim to the title of “lady” is sound only if she tacks on “of the night,” thereby alluding to another euphemism of what she is.) As much as she’d like to pretend otherwise, there’s nothing new or different about this particular hussy’s pretentious prancing. Does the simple slut truly think that she can change God’s standards by seducing a generation of rebels into joining her in fist-raised, stiff-necked, hard-hearted rebellion against Him? Get real!
Even as she gives lip-service to “liberating” her young fans, Lady Gaga brings them into slavery to their own corruption, teaching them to glory in their shame. She hates you! “For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness…While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption!” 2 Pet. 2:18-19

While I usually feel the need to comment and point out the sheer absurdity of religion in its every form, I feel like this is that one time where the blinding stupidity just speaks for itself. There’s just no need to point out how ridiculous this is. I guess if I’m GOING TO HELL anyway, I might as well get acquainted with what I’ll be watching on repeat while I’m there.

While I agree with the sentiment of your article, you need to understand that this is what they want. They don’t care whether a mention in the media likes or hates them as long as they get media coverage. Let them scream and fling their poo in frustrated anonymity. If you believe in God at all, just relax and ignore them. These creatures will get all the condemnation they deserve in due time.

IDK which is worse, the people of the Westboro Baptist Church or “lady gaga”. IMO, if you were to toss “Lady Gaga” into a fire the world would be better off. Tossing the troublemakers of the Westboro Baptist Church into a fire might help the world, but not as much as getting rid of “Lady Gaga”!

This is messed up. God doesn’t hate anybody, as a matter of fact since he created us, it’s the total opposite regardless of what you may think or believe. The truth is that if you go down paths that your not supposed to go down, you pay the price sometimes and you get bit. Hopefully you’ll be smart enough to not do it again but most people still go back. It’s your own fault so don’t blame God. If your doing drugs or getting naked with your mates God will either bitch slap you because you deserve it or you’ll be so F- up that he doesn’t want anything to do with you. The door is always open with God and if your willing to step away from all the crap then He is always willing to take you back. Churches like this have no idea what a relationship with the Creator of the Universe is like and they give a bad example of the truth. As far as Lady Ga Ga… looks like she is searchin for something.
Wow.. since this isn’t parody, it might fall into copyright issues.. not only that is is so low brow.. Not creative, and insinuates that 911 is caused by Gaga? Or just people being bad? Are these types the same kind that thank god so profusely for their personal awards while many other parts of the world are suffering. This is disappointing. I don’t really like Gaga’s music, but if I were her, I would immediately go after the people for infringement.. Phil Thomas Katt is an untalented and sloppy video producer and editor. His skills are so lacking that I’m still amazed he takes himself so seriously. It would be wise of Katt to go back to college and study television production.

Well, that was hilarious. I so love the Westboro Baptist Church for showing what it means to be a TRUE christian. Every time they do something completely asinine in public, I feel all happy inside.
Sure they hate me, but I always know where I stand with them. They don’t pretend to “love” me while actively trying to destroy my rights. I long for the day when people like them are the only christians left; the day when anyone else is too embarrassed to use the term.

Parodies are one thing, however if the music is lifted verbatim that is definitely in violation of copyright. Whatever the case is, I will be celebrating the funerals of these asshats when they all die…yes, I said asshats.
Actually, John, it is copyright infringement, remember the whole Vanilla ice episode from the early 90s? They used Lady Gaga’s exact music without her permission. Producers or creators of parodies of a copyrighted work have been sued for infringement by the targets of their ridicule, even though such use may be protected as fair use. Says they may be protected, not will be. Any decent lawyer could win that case, but outside of that realm, this church needs to be blown to pieces. They should have no right to live in this country and I’m praying their god will strike them down for their hateful behavior.

John, (01/30/2010 10:43am) there are NO fair use provisions regarding music or photography/video.. only for text, and even then only if excerpts are used and credited to the original author. The record company Gaga is signed to should at least hit them with a cease and desist order.

Look up Sut Jhally for examples of video fair use. For music that wretched Ben Stein movie Expelled. Yoko Ono lost a court challenge over the movies use of Imagine, because an excerpt was used as criticism. It fell well within Fair Use.
It would be really fun to see how Westboro would try to defend allegations of copyright abuse in court. If they tried to claim the video was a parody, what the hell have all the other protests been? “oh, we are just joking when we picket funerals” I don’t think Fred is willing to go there. They might be able to successfully defend some of the photos and other elements as a criticism of Lady Gaga, but the backing track is a problem. Is that from the song, or is that from one of those karaoke versions. If it is a karaoke version, is there some slim chance that Westboro could have paid much smaller fees to use it. But I really doubt it, Megan Phelps-Roper probably just has a poorly thought out dream of being some evil christian Weird Al without understanding parody or Fair Use. The video guy/editor is most likely some high school kid with a copy of Premiere (Final Cut Pro and Apple computers are probably to gay for Westboro) and dreams of working for the 700 Club.
I usually don’t like the idea the the side with the most money and lawyers wins, but I would make an exception in this case. If Lady Gaga’s record company gets pissed over this, they could tie this up in court for a while. I don’t think that Westboro has enough money to defend themselves in court for that long. The record company has a chance of bankrupting Fred Phelp’s hateful little church with this.

The whole point of the Westboro Baptist Church’s pickets is to perpetuate a scam. Fred Phelps’ law firm, Phelps Chartered, sues any municipality or other government that passes laws preventing or restricting their pickets. If they lose, they collect no fees from Fred. If they win, they make up as high a fee as the judge will sign off on, and use a 1984 civil rights law to collect the legal fees from the governmental body that passed the law. Coupled with their complete lack of shame, it’s a license to print money if they can generate enough reaction to put pressure on elected officials to pass a law or ordinance.
The reaction of non-governmental entities should be, in my opinion, to heap ridicule on them whenever possible. To point out how incredibly ludicrous and unintentionally self-parodying they are. Laughter is free, and defuses their desired effect of public outrage.
Ignoring the WBC is what Christians want who are embarrassed by the flaws in their beliefs exploited by the Phelpses.
Mocking the WBC is the perfect reaction.
Unfortunately when it comes to parodies there are no copyright infringement laws. This is why there are always parodies being made and nobody being sued.
I do agree with some of the other posters though that we are simply giving a group of religious wackos exactly what they are looking for, media attention. Who are they to say who God likes or dislikes?
Personally I think lady gaga uses way to much make up. She would be great even without any make up. But everybody has his own style.
