Sarah Palin’s $150K Wardrobe

In case you missed this little tidbit, it just came out that the RNC has spent somewhere around $150,000 on the wardrobe of potential VP Sarah Palin. (Images here)

Tell me again how the Republican Party is the “party of the little guy.” How many little guys own $150k in clothes? Hell, most houses in my neighborhood aren’t quite worth that much, and she has that dollar value in her closet.

To put it into perspective, with the amount that the RNC has spent on clothing for Sarah Palin, I could have…

  1. Paid off all $50k of my student loan debt.
  2. Paid off the $15k left on my car.
  3. Put $35k down on a home.
  4. Donated $50k to various charities.

This just goes to cement the fact everyone seems to be ignoring. She isn’t just like you. (I’m looking at you, mothers of America.) In fact, she hasn’t been like you for a while now. Do you get to fly to NY with your daughter on tax payer’s dime? Of course not. Does the RNC drop $150,000 on clothes for you? Nope.

No political candidate, ever, will be just like you. Unless you happen to be a Senator.

Now – that being said, we can’t rightly have the potential VP of the United States running around in Wal-Mart clothes. There is a certain level of professionalism and appearance that needs to be upheld, and a trip to the Salvation Army isn’t going to cut it.

However, it’s quite ironic that they spend all this time invoking “Joe the Plumber” and trying to pass themselves off as the party of the people… and then turn around and spend more than triple the average yearly salary for 50% of the country on clothes within a matter of weeks.

The irony is that it made Sarah the Impaler look less like the populist hockey mom than before.
