This article has been through a lot, but it’s finally up and I’m quite proud of the final result – The 2009 Muckmaker Awards. I was working on this project before Christmas, but woke up one day to find my computer infected with the nastiest virus I’ve ever gotten, and nothing on my computer could be salvaged. Luckily, I back up my important files every few weeks or so, so most of my stuff was thankfully saved, but every bit of research and writing I had done for the Muckmaker Awards was completely lost. After a week of trying to fix my computer, I ended up just reformatting and starting fresh – hence the lack of updates as of late. After many sleepless nights, I am finally able to present to you this special feature in all its golden glory. Many blogs give out their own awards, but none are quite like this. Instead of rewarding the best of the best, we just want to shit on the worst of the worst, giving every major asshole of 2008 his or her due, so we came up with the trophy you see on the left – our wonderful planet being flushed down the toilet. We have ten winners (or losers, rather) in the following categories, each with a runner-up, except for the final award:
Worst Newcomer
Worst Pundit
Worst Blog
Worst News Source
Worst Corporation
Worst Religious Leader
Worst Religion
Worst Politician
Worst Businessman
Worst Muckmaker

I can’t stress enough how hard we worked on this feature, so please, give it a read and tell us what you think! Do you agree with our choices? Would you have selected other muckmakers? And if you enjoyed it, please share it with others…post it on your blog, e-mail it, plug it on a message board, print it out and staple it to a Republican’s forehead…whatever you gotta do to get this one out there!

I think Christianity should have tied with Islam. Christian fundamentalism is largely responsible for the over 1.3 million deaths in the war on Iraq.
