The Muckmakers List
We all know who the muckrakers are, but who are the muckmakers, the people creating all this muck in the first place? Who are these greedy, self-centered, self-righteous, and oppressive forces that are limiting our freedoms, closing our minds, hindering progress, and rolling around in piles of our hard-earned money? This is the definitive list of the worst that modern man has to offer.
We are constantly updating The Muckmakers List, and we do take suggestions from our readers, so if you know any person or organization that fits the bill, be sure to drop us a line.
Political Figures
George H.W. Bush
Former President of the United States, 1989-1993
While hailed as a saint when being compared to his son, Bush Sr. was no paragon of integrity himself. This wealthy oil monger was involved in the Iran-Contra Affair as vice president, but that didn’t prevent him from succeeding Reagan and continuing his legacy of lies. Bush promised “no new taxes” and gave us new taxes. He claimed that he wanted to make the United States “a kinder, gentler nation,” then started the Gulf War when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. Up until this point, the mass murderer was considered a U.S. ally by both Bush and Reagan, but when he started messing around with those oil fields, George took it personally. While the operation was considered a success, Hussein was never taken out and the deficits back home continued to rise as the economy sank. Thankfully, he only served one term as president before he was voted out.
George W. Bush
President of the United States, 2001-2008
Considered by many to be the worst president in the history of the United States, George cheated his way to the top using his family name and business connections and then proceeded to use our nation’s highest office to start unjustified wars with the Middle East for personal profit, drive the American economy into the ground by encouraging political corruption, and push a neo-conservative Christian agenda in almost every aspect of governmental policy. He also failed to protect the United States against the most devastating foreign attack on our soil since Pearl Harbor and then used intimidation and misinformation to orchestrate a following of Orwellian proportions. Religious Figures
Pope Benedict XVI
Pope, head of the Roman Catholic Church, 2005-present
As Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Joseph Alois Ratzinger worked tirelessly to thwart any progressive movement within the Catholic Church and push an agenda of traditional conservative views, including wars with gays, women, and every major religion other than Catholicism (even certain “liberal” Catholics as well). He had no qualms with protecting pedophile priests, however; Ratzinger prohibited other clergymen with incriminating evidence from going to the authorities and helped these rapists transfer jobs to avoid prosecution. When he became Pope, he used his power to subvert women’s roles in the Church as much as possible and started a war of words with Muslim extremists, costing innocent lives and aggravating tensions between the two religions in the process. Corporations
Wal-Mart
Worldwide chain of discount department stores, 1962-present
Wal-Mart is the world’s largest public corporation by revenue, the world’s largest private employer, the largest grocery retailer, and is considered by many financial analysts to be the most powerful company in the world. Unfortunately, it’s also the largest corporation to spend so little on its employee’s health benefits, the company with the most human rights lawsuits filed against it, and one of the most ruthlessly run retailers in the world. From profiting off the deaths of its employees through tax loopholes to hiring cheap and illegal foreign labor to destroying small businesses with predatory pricing, Wal-Mart knows no bounds when it comes to making a profit. While claiming to save average Americans money, it actually costs taxpayers millions of dollars every year because it does not offer most of its employees health benefits and crushes competition wherever their stores are built, limiting decent employment opportunities. There is a high cost to low prices, and Americans pay it dearly.
