Weekend Happenings 10/20

In case you were asleep all weekend…

This is a must-watch: On MSNBC just now, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), who has been a prominent McCain-Palin supporter on the cable talk shows, went on perhaps the most bizarre and McCarthyite rant about Obama that we’ve seen from a supposedly-respectable politician in this entire election.

Basically, Bachmann urged the media to conduct an “expose” as to which members of Congress were American, and which were un-American. Yes, apparently we’re not being coy anymore. Anyone who disagrees with the conservative Christian view of what the country should be is now un-American, and should be exposed as such.

While some analysis showed Wurzelbacher faring better under Obama’s plan than McCain’s, McCain has lashed out at Obama for saying that while his policies may force some workers to pay higher taxes, they were designed to “spread the wealth around” by targeting only families making over $250,000 annually.

Ignore the fact that if you make less than 250k a year, you’ll get more of a tax break with Obama’s plan. Ignore it, completely, and vote against your own financial best interest. That’s apparently the McCain stance in a nutshell. Also, taxes have always “spread the wealth around.” Always. The top 10% of earners in the country contribute a massive portion of our tax dollars. They always have, and probably always will. Now – I’m not saying I’m 100% behind the idea, but can we quit pretending like Obama invented taxes?

Every member of Congress that voted for the war is unAmerican.
